First Impressions of Milan – Italy’s Richest City
Join Dan from The New Travel as he explores Milan, Italy’s fashion and economic capital! Discover the historic Arch of Peace, the impressive Castello Sforzesco, Italian coffee culture, stylish shopping streets, and delicious Milanese food.
First Impressions of Milan – Italy’s Richest City 🇮🇹😂
After exploring the historic streets of Rome and admiring the Renaissance beauty of Florence, Dan from The New Travel heads north to Milan, Italy’s economic powerhouse and fashion capital. But forget the usual tourist checklist! His first impressions reveal a different side of Italy, where local life, unexpected discoveries, and expensive shopping windows make every step an adventure.
A City That Feels Truly Italian
Visiting in August, Dan notices something different about Milan. Unlike Rome and Florence, where tourists seem to be everywhere, Milan feels like a city that belongs first and foremost to the people who live there. Even the signs seem to say, “Welcome to Milan! Now figure out the Italian yourself!” Thankfully, the charming old trams, welcoming locals, and beautiful streets make exploring worthwhile.
One historical highlight is the Arco della Pace, or Arch of Peace. Its story involves Napoleon, the Austrian Empire, and a little political shade involving the direction of some horses. Apparently, even monuments have drama in Europe!
Design, Coffee, and Unexpected Discoveries
Dan explores Milan’s design culture, enjoys a refreshing caffè freddo, and discovers that Italian coffee is more than a drink it’s a ritual. In Italy, sometimes you just have to sit down, relax, and enjoy the moment instead of rushing around with a takeaway cup.
A walk through Parco Sempione leads to the impressive Castello Sforzesco, where history meets unexpected musical performances and lively park vibes. Milan certainly knows how to keep a traveler guessing!
Fashion Dreams and Wallet Nightmares
Walking through Milan’s stylish shopping streets, Dan sees fashionable locals and luxury stores everywhere. The city looks fabulous, but the prices? Not so much! After peeking inside one shop, he jokes that it might be the end of his bank account. At least admiring the architecture is free!
A Delicious Milanese Ending
The day ends with a hearty plate of cotoletta alla Milanese, wine, tiramisu, and coffee at a local restaurant. The entire meal costs €39 not exactly pocket change, but a satisfying taste of Milanese cuisine. Unfortunately, the tiramisu also leaves its mark on Dan’s white T-shirt!
From fascinating history to fashion, friendly conversations, and unforgettable food, Milan proves it’s much more than a stopover. Sometimes, the best travel memories aren’t planned they simply happen along the way!
